Theft of property worth between $1K and $20K, vehicular eluding, burglary and trespass are some of the charges that could pressed against the 73-year-old.
Two males fled the SUV before it was stopped.

West posted a $7.5K bond and is released. She has declined to name the two men who are still at large. A search of the SUV uncovered over $2,000 worth of electrical conduit and a half empty liquor bottle.

In case you missed my announcement on Twitter yesterday, well be doing a live chat with Josh Koscheck next week. Yesterdays chat with Chael Sonnen was the most successful one weve ever done and I fully expect the Koscheck chat to be just as popular.

Heres a few notes from Chicago before we move on to the news of the day:

- All fighters made weight on the first attempt during todays weigh-ins. The loudest boos were reserved for Michael Bisping, who responded by classily shooting a pair of middle fingers to the fans in attendance. He and Sonnen had the most intense faceoff of the day, going forehead-to-forehead and talking to one another. Both Sonnen and Rashad Evans got a mixed reaction with some boos and cheers, while Phil Davis didnt get much of a reaction at all until he took off his track suit to reveal his Penn State wrestling singlet. That didnt go over too well.

- Sonnen is still nearly a 5 to 1 favorite over Bisping. For what its worth, most of the interest surrounding the show is on the Sonnen/Bisping fight and not the main event, though Evans and Davis did their absolute best to add some drama to their fight during yesterdays press conference. The pair bickered endlessly, with Evans saying that Davis had garbage wrestling, that he would have beaten him wrestling in college and could beat him now. He cant be serious, but still, it added some intrigue to a fight that was sorely lacking it.

- Chris Weidman is still a slight favorite over Demian Maia, and Evans is still a 2 to 1 favorite over Davis.

- Yesterdays biggest story was of the holy crap, thats terrifying variety.

Dana White called the hacker group Anonymous a bunch of terrorists and challenged them to hack UFC.com again. Well, late last night, they did just that, hacking the main UFC.com website and the streaming site UFC.tv.

But they also did so much more, releasing a slew of Whites personal details including his social security number and more. The release included Whites legitimate email address and the names and email addresses of almost every major and minor company executive.

The situation started when Lawrence Epstein, the UFCs chief legal counsel, published an editorial expressing support for SOPA. The website was hacked in retaliation, and then Whites comments about the hackers being terrorists seemed to escalate things further.

The moral of the story? You might think these guys are nerds, but theyre pretty smart nerds and have the power to really hurt you.

- White said that hes working on mending his relationship with ESPN at the moment. White put the network on blast after they did the Outside the Lines piece on fighter pay, which he had serious issues with.

- White also said that he was proud of the UFCs new policy where they drug test all potential new fighters before signing them, but also said that it was unlikely that they will expand the testing to include random out of competition procedures. Thats unfortunate, because if they announced that they were going to do 50 out of competition tests this calendar year the kind where they show up at your door and you have to take a urine test immediately it would go a long way towards curtailing the PED problem in the sport.

- The winner of the UFC on FOX 3 lightweight bout between Jim Miller and Nate Diaz will likely receive a title shot.

- Brawl Sports contributor Jonathan Snowden spent the entirety of Thursday with Rashad Evans and his camp and wrote this excellent story. Its worth a read.

- George Sotiropoulos suffered an injury while training and is out of his UFC 144: Japan bout against Takanori Gomi. Eiji Mitsuoka will take his place. Mitsuoka is a former Sengoku and DREAM fighter who has won his last two fights.

- The UFC is targeting July 7 for a pay per view event and Fan Expo in Las Vegas. The last Fan Expo was held in Houston and was a resounding success.

- A fight I neglected to mention earlier this week: Miguel Torres will return to the cage at UFC 145 in Atlanta against Michael McDonald. Thats a hell of a fight. McDonald is considered a top bantamweight prospect and will present a stern challenge for Torres. The winner will likely be in line for a title shot at the winner of Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber.

- Bellator 61 will take place March 16 at the Horseshow Riverdome in Bossier City, Lousiana. It will feature the heavyweight tournament rematch from last seasons finale between Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos. Thats the fight that ended when Santos kicked Prindle REALLY HARD in the junk and Prindle couldnt continue. And then folks didnt believe Prindle was actually hurt, so he tweeted a picture of his junk the next day. I hope we can avoid a repeat of this situation at all costs.

- One more interesting Bellator note: they have applied for a Nevada promoters license. I cant see them trying to get into Las Vegas, but Reno or Tahoe is a possibility.

- Rashad Evans training partner Tyrone Spong will face Melvin Manhoef in a kickboxing bout this weekend. I can tell you first hand that Spong is a world-class striker who has some of the biggest tree-trunk legs Ive ever seen. That should be a fun fight if youre into kickboxing.

- Weigh-ins for UFC 143 are set for Feb. 3 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The same venue hosts the actual event the next day, which features the Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit main event.

Jillian Michaels of “The Biggest Loser” fame recently interviewed fitness guru John Spencer Ellis on her radio show. The interview is now available online at http://johnspencerellis.com/jillian-michaels-and-john-spencer-ellis-discuss-fitness-and-your-personal-success/

(PRWEB) February 12, 2012

From “The Secret” to friends that make you fat, and from losing weight to losing interest, Jillian Michaels, best known for her role on “The Biggest Loser,” and John Spencer Ellis, a fitness and personal development guru who Michaels calls her “uber mentor,” discuss a wide range of fitness and wellness topics on a recent Michaels’ radio show. The fitness-focused interview from the show on KFI AM 640 “More Stimulating Talk Radio” is now available online.

In the no-holds barred interview on a variety of fitness topics, Michaels and Ellis discuss motivation and expectations, organic living and eating as well as the difference between “organic” and “natural,” healthy strategies for eating out, self-belief and self-talk, successful fitness routines, weight loss and much more. In addition, Michaels and Ellis took calls from listeners to talk about topics including triathlons, life coaching, fitness certifications, mentorship, motivation and more.

“When you write a goal down, you make a commitment to yourself. The action also further emblazons the goal on your conscience,” said Ellis, when discussing both setting and achieving goals in the interview. “When you write it down slow enough, it also allows you to unwind and unravel the mystery of what you really want.”

Michaels, who now hosts the popular radio show on Sunday mornings, is one of the country’s leading health and wellness experts. In addition, she currently offers advice on the Emmy award-winning syndicated series “The Doctors” and also acts as a special contributor on the Dr. Phil show.

“Do the best you can as frequently as possible,” Ellis added, when it comes to eating, exercising and living well. “Now might be the time to ask if you are really getting what you deserve in life.”

Link: HD broadcasts lure performing arts institutions, but only a few will benefit long-term
By Anne Midgette

In a story in the Sunday Arts section of the Washington Post, I check in on the ongoing phenomenon of HD movie-theater screenings: first the Met, now the National Theatre, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Bolshoi Ballet, and Yo-Yo Ma. Story here: HD screenings can revitalize performing arts.

It seems like an embarrassment of riches. The underlying message, though, appears to be that those who are in a position to think like big businesses, approach HD cinecasts realistically, and figure out other ways to market their “content” are the ones who will survive. This is why the Met remains the leader in the field. Those institutions that simply see this as a great way to spread the word about the arts and get more viewers for their performances: not so much.

I have to give a tip of the hat to Deborah Borda, the president and CEO of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 2007, when I interviewed her for another article, she told me, “If you had the New York or Los Angeles Philharmonic doing symphonic concerts in movie theaters across the country, it would not sell.” Today, the LA Phil Live series screens three times a year in some 400-500 screens around the United States, and Borda good-humoredly laughed at herself when reminded of the quote in a phone interview last week.

Borda wasn’t wrong, though. For one thing, the jury is still out on how well the LA Phil Live cinecasts are actually doing with the public. (The next one is on February 18: Mahler’s 8th Symphony, led by Gustavo Dudamel, with 1,027 performers on stage.) For another, Borda was quite right to observe that orchestral performance is less inherently visual than opera or ballet. “How many shots do you need of an oboe putting a reed in?” she asked.

And finally, she was prescient after all. Having qualified the reasons , in 2007, for thinking orchestras are a harder sell in movie theaters, she concluded, “If somebody’s going to dream it up, it will probably be us.” Indeed, the Los Angeles Philharmonic is the first major orchestra to try national HD cinecasts on this scale (though the Philadelphia Orchestra dabbled in live broadcasts to universities and performing arts centers a few years back).

What are your thoughts on movie-theater broadcasts of orchestra concerts? Do you go to them? And if you don’t, what, if anything, would make you want to?

Above: a trailer for the second season of LA Phil Live broadcasts, now in progress. “It is much more than a concert,” says Deborah Borda, the orchestra’s president, of the additional interviews, backstage footage, introductory material, and other extras included in the broadcasts.

The campus is under attack. Squirrels everywhere, take cover immediately. It’s true; our beloved furry friends, you know, the ones that grace us with their delightful back flips and walnut dives as we walk from class to class, are in danger. These friendly critters’ lives are in jeopardy all because a creature higher up in the food chain made the Fort Hays State University campus its new home.

I have noticed a dip in the rodent population on the quad as I meander from my post at the Writing Center to my classes in Rarick. I thought perhaps the cute little creatures were taking an unprecedented hibernation this year because they wanted to change up their routine a bit. No, it turns out that a hawk, a nasty member of the raptor family, has been observed swooping down, snatching up squirrels and growing chubbier by the day. To gain some insight into the dire situation, I set up an interview with squirrel enthusiast professor Cheryl Duffy.

As I walked through the quad on campus, I came upon our designated interview location and observed Duffy crumpled in a heap, wrapped awkwardly around the stump of a tree. As I approached her, I realized she was not, in fact, in physical pain – more on her mental state later. I took another step closer and saw her hand thrust into a knothole. She reached into her hand-knitted squirrel rucksack, pulled out a walnut and placed another into the knothole.

I inquired about her actions; she told me she had spent the last 20 minutes gathering walnuts from the “exposed areas of the quad” and was now hiding them in “safety holes.” Her mission became clear as she chased two squirrels frolicking in the exposed zone back into the “hawk-free” region: no more squirrel lives would be lost–not on her watch.

As it became challenging to maintain a conversation between each “get out of there” and “did you move that walnut?”, we proceeded in a northeasterly direction, toward Rarick Hall, where I thought she might be a bit calmer. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Well, almost.

As we approached the southwest corner of Rarick, I soon saw the sinister raptor flutter onto a comfortable perch atop a stark branch silhouetted eerily against the cyan sky. I hoped beyond hope I could keep Duffy from noticing. Yeah, right. Before I could divert her attention, she had darted between a group of students and snatched up a large stick from the grass. She lobbed it at the hawk, hollering, “Leave. Them. A-LONE.” She missed by a mere six inches. The hawk didn’t flinch.

I suggested that we move our conversation inside, to which she replied, “Later – I need to warn them.” Before I turned around, she had flitted off. So much for an interview. I slogged away, slightly sullen that the interview had ended before it even began. After all, my story about squirrels being attacked by an evil hawk wasn’t going to write itself. And Duffy’s testimony – or lack thereof – was disappointing, to say the least.

I decided the only way I was going to get the real story was to see it for myself, so I spent three days ardently observing the quad’s ecosystem in between work and classes. Duffy made several appearances as she stuffed more walnuts into more knotholes, kept rebellious squirrels in a safe territory and threw random objects at the hawk. And I finally did, indeed, see the hawk snatch up a small squirrel that had scurried into the open. But then I observed something marvelous, gathered the facts and rearranged them into a discovery that is quite remarkable.

The squirrel made its mad, suicidal dash shortly after Duffy had stashed more walnuts into its arborous abode. Said squirrel immediately stuffed a walnut into its mouth and had an allergic reaction, so the hawk gathered it up and performed a kind of raptor-like Heimlich maneuver. He returned the scrawny squirrel back to safety and then gobbled up the offensive walnut.

You see, the two had formed a symbiotic relationship; the hawk saved the squirrel that had a walnut allergy from the crazed professor while the squirrel provided the hawk sustenance to support his vegetarian diet, a lifestyle change that resulted in his moving to the Fort Hays quad. The hawk wasn’t gaining robustness from gobbling up squirrels; he was adjusting to a new walnut diet. And no one has observed multiple squirrels being seized by the hawk; they have observed one squirrel being saved repeatedly.

The moral of the story? Squirrels can have nut allergies, hawks can be vegetarians and humans will never understand the finer nuances of nature and, consequently, would be better off leaving the ecosystem to sustain itself. No more saving the squirrels.

1. Secret Getaway goes first time off the Jacobson claim (28%) after chasing loose on the lead winner here on Dec. 11; attracts stables go to rider for this. Small Town lost all chance in latest but was third in similar spot two back. Hardshell scratched out of similar heat on Saturday for this.

2. Down by Law ran well to get up for second in debut for Pletcher; barn is 31% with second timers and Dominguez sticks. Bluegrass Rumor makes third start back for Romans stretching out to two turns; consider. Nevesian never factored in turf debut at Tampa; adds Lasix and is bred to dirt.
